Most people find me because something isn't working.
The travel spend nobody can explain. The assistant who's become the out-of-hours emergency line. Or the family trip that's been sitting on a list for 2 years because nobody has the evening to plan it.
I'm Alexandra Catt, an independent travel advisor. I run Cattapult Ventures from Grenada, and I handle corporate travel for US companies and the personal trips those same people take when the work is done.
How I got here
I didn't plan to stay in Grenada.
I came for the job. A good one, the kind that looks great on paper and feeds the ego and makes you feel like you're going somewhere.
Then I sat in the same management meeting for the fourth year running. Same conversation, same outcomes. And it clicked.
There were politics, the way there are everywhere. I could handle it when I was younger. Raising 2 daughters and watching it change who I was becoming sat differently.
So I handed in my notice.
Grenada had become home. My girls were born here. And I built something of my own.
Our wedding in Spain. I planned it myself, guests from around the world included.
What I actually bring
Before travel I spent years in operations, running teams of 150 across sales and customer service brands. Budgets, escalations, and putting out fires before breakfast. Once, literally, when the building next door caught fire and we moved operations to another island to keep running.
Good travel planning is just good ops. A plan, a backup, and someone who cares whether it works.
I've been the trusted planner for friends and family for nearly 20 years. I'm a Cunard Diamond member. Between January and August this year I booked 342 trips. I'm a mother of 2, so I know what family travel is actually like rather than how it looks in a brochure.
And I live in the Caribbean, so what I tell you about this region comes from being here rather than from a supplier deck.
What makes me different
I'm not anybody's top seller.
No brand allegiance, no preferred supplier badge, no quota to hit with one cruise line. Plenty of advisors have those, and they're perfectly good at their jobs, but their income depends on pointing you in one direction.
Mine doesn't. Whatever you book, I'm paid the same. So the only thing I'm working toward is you booking with me again next year.
That's also why I don't specialize in one destination. The relationship is the thing that lasts. Where you want to go changes over the years, and it should.
And the rest of it
I'm at my desk Monday to Friday, not emailing from a beach chair, whatever the palm trees suggest.
There are 4am workouts, because that's the only window, and I am not a joyful participant in the 4am club. There are school runs. There is a headless mermaid on the kitchen counter more often than I'd like.
It's a messy, imperfect, genuinely good life, and it's the one I chose.
